William and Mary BureauSOLD
This is a fine early bureau in walnut dating back to 1690-1702 the William and Mary period, it has had various restorations carried out , the feet are not the origional turned onion feet but later Georgian bracket feet, which are all together more practical, the origional handles were replaced with some very good hand engraved Queen Anne plates from roughly 1730, it seems that some of the interior drawers of which there are a very extravagant 17 of ! have been made around 1800.
The drawers all have walnut crossbanding and herringbone inlays as does the fall, with a lovely bookmatched panels in figured walnut.
The configuration of the cellar, and then the two smaller lockable drawers left and right is very unusual, if not unique.
Considering the restorations and adjustments applied to this very early piece, these have been reflected in the price which could be expected to be 3 or 4 times this if eveyrthing was origional .
size: 96cm x 52cm x 105cm high.
