George III breakfront BookcaseSOLD
This very large four sectioned mahogany bookcase dates back to 1770, it has a very imposing character, and lovely proportions if you can place it, fantastic cuban mahogany glass doors, nearly all origional glass!! The pediment has the middle broken section with the gilded plaster eagle in the centre, all typical details of the middle to late 18th century, the colour is also remarkably good many parts having the origional patina, lovely detailing on the drawer configuration with the unusual but quite charming centre drawer.
This is a piece which is very rare, most of the larger bookcase are all much later than this one not to mention much more expensive, it is complete and everything works, even the locks have keys, if you had this piece re-made today it is lightly to cost as much or more, and would have a lot of inferior materials such as mdf incorperated into its carcase's instead of solid Georgian mahogany.
size : 237cm x 54cm x 270cm high.
