This is a bookcase based on the famous designs by Thomas Chippendale based on the very fashionable Chinese influences of the late 18th century, the top carcase is pure 18th century, the base however has largely been re-modelled at the end of the 19th century, which was the time of the second chinese Chippendale revival, the timber is largely 18th century but it has also a very distinct Arts and Crafts influence in for example the unuasual splayed bracket feet.

So really quite a unique piece covering George III 18th century coupled with late 19th century revival Arts and Crafts.
