William and Mary walnut comode c 1700 SOLD

William III and Mary II were king and queen of England for only thirteen years from 1689 to 1702.

William who come from Holland introduced Dutch, Spanish and Oriental motifs into English design, and this became known as "court style".In addition he encouraged many Dutch artisans to follow him .

The onion feet are very typical of the furniture of this early period as is the walnut quartered veneer with crossbanding and herringbone inlays, the handles are later being 18th century, the markings of origional drops are just visible.

rails and mouldings are moulded from walnut crossgrain, drawers are lined in oak .There are signs of old repairs to top and sides as is normal with a 300 year old chest of this type.

Needless to say this piece has a great rarity value and has been known to demand very high prices through the years, in normal times this would be considered to be very reasonable if priced at  €7000 to  €15,000, this one can be yours for  ----       aside from it being a very desirable piece to have in your home it is an excelent  investment and could very likely give a better return over ten years than many other investments!!
